Introduction to SIGDP         Greetings

Greetings

As internet users increasingly utilize online services, they leave behind a significant amount of digital breadcrumbs. The technologies for collecting, processing, and transferring users' personal data are rapidly proliferating, becoming routine business for various internet companies. Recently, advancements in artificial intelligence and machine learning are being used to track individuals' actions and profile their tendencies more accurately.

Although laws and regulations like South Korea's Personal Information Protection Act and the three data-related bills, Europe's GDPR, and California's CCPA in the United States aim to protect online privacy, there are still unresolved issues regarding whether they sufficiently safeguard sensitive user data and allow internet companies to maintain their businesses based on user data. Balancing the maintenance of internet companies' businesses with the protection of users' privacy in technical, legal, and public policy fields is an increasingly pressing issue.

Special Interest Group on Data Privacy (SIGDP) of the Korea Information Processing Society gathers industry, academia, government, and association professionals from the fields of computer science, law, administration, and internet business to research all aspects of data privacy.
